Hat-tip to Kevin Williams for sending us the following information:
Each Spring invitations to the Northstar Invitational go out to a select group of girls who are deemed to be among the top 150 high school lacrosse players in the country and for the second year in a row Maddie Williams, a rising sophomore at Seton Catholic, was again invited to play in the week-long event which is held during the last week of July in Lake Placid, New York. On the first day of the event, before teams are assigned and tournament play begins, the girls are put through and compete against each other in a rigorous series of timed performance tests designed to measure their overall fitness and athletic excellence. The 300 yard shuttle run, widely recognized by the athletes as the most difficult of those tests, was conducted last and out of the 150 players invited to the event Seton Catholic’s own Maddie Williams finished with the second best time. Maddie was then assigned to Team Canada and after scoring more than 10 goals during tournament play as a defensive midfielder, Inside Lacrosse Magazine published an article naming Maddie as one of the top 30 “Players Who Impressed.” In that same article, one of the reporters who covered the invitational had this to say about Maddie: “A hustler through the midfield, Williams works hard end-to-end as a relentless two-way midfielder. Just an overall solid player, she’s great on the draw circle and in her team’s re-defending efforts.”
Congratulations on an impressive write-up Maddie and best of luck as you now switch gears by climbing back in the net as the starting goalkeeper for the Lady Saints soccer team which is looking to defend their 2014 Class B sectional title!
